Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Wednesday called on the U.S. to focus on bilateral cooperation and meet each other half way.

Yang made the remarks during a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Yang said China is willing to continue to share information and experience in epidemic prevention and control with the U.S., carry out anti-epidemic cooperation, ensure the stability of the global supply chain and promote global economic and financial stability .

Yang emphasized that in the global anti-epidemic context, it is crucial to properly handle Sino-U.S. relations and maintain the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.

He said he hopes that China and the U.S. can focus on cooperation rather than disagreements, and promote the development of Sino-U.S. relations along the right track.

This is also the common expectation of the international community, Yang added.

Pompeo said that the epidemic situation is a common challenge the international community faces.

The U.S. is willing to work with China to implement the consensus of the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation in the fight against the virus, and continue to maintain communication and coordination on the development of U.S.-China relations.
