Yushu has completed 1,248 post-disaster reconstruction projects, housing 16,710 families of farmers and herdsmen and 22,439 households in urban communities since a 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the region on April 14, 2010. Significant progress has also been made in poverty reduction, as the average annual income of poverty-stricken people in Yushu has been raised from 2,970 yuan (about 421 U.S. dollars) in 2015 to more than 5,200 yuan (about 738 U.S. dollars) in 2019. Also, the prefecture has made progress in ecological protection.
