In China, the peony is seen as the "king of flowers." As the legend goes, all other flowers bowed to the peony because it was the most beautiful of them all. Peonies blossom in spring, which is a quite "competitive" season for a variety of plants to present their colors and fragrance. Still, no flower could overshadow the peony, and it was crowned king.
