A World Health Organization (WHO) vehicle carrying swabs from patients to be tested for novel coronavirus came under gunfire in Myanmar's western Rakhine state on Monday. The vehicle's driver, Pyae Sone Win Maun, a WHO worker, died in the attack and a Myanmar government official was seriously wounded.  

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack, calling for a full and transparent investigation into the incident and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described Maun's death as "tragic" and termed the incident a "devastating news." 

The WHO said in a tweet that the "whole WHO family is saddened" by Maun's death and expressed condolences.  

Both the Myanmar military and the ethnic Arakan Army, which clashed in Rakhine, have denied involvement in the attack.
