Fossil specimens recovered from the Middle Jurassic Lower Member of the Shaximiao Formation in Yunyang County, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, were assigned to a new species of Omeisaurus based on morphological and comparative study.

The large herbivorous dinosaur had an adult body length of about 16 meters.

These fossil specimens include forelimbs, hind limbs and vertebrae with some joints, as well as clavicles, ribs, etc. They are obviously different from the seven known species of Omeisaurus.

This discovery reveals new morphological information on Omeisaurus; and it also represents the expansion of the distribution range of Omeisaurus.
