After a five-month frozen period since December, China's largest inland salt lake, located in northwest China's Qinghai Province, started to thaw on April 18, nearly a month later than usual.

Qinghai Lake is the largest saline and alkaline lake in China, and a vital water body to preserve the ecosystem of the northeast Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, as well as a natural barrier to harness desertification in western China.
