Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of a 70-year-old cleaner who died last November after being hit by a brick during clashes between Hong Kong SAR residents and protesters, according to local police.

The two suspects, ages 16 and 17, were due in court on Wednesday and face charges of murder, wounding with intent and rioting.

A senior police officer said "we are very distressed to see that many young people have committed crimes recently, especially serious violent crimes."

He added that the police strongly condemn all those who violate the law.
