South China's Guangdong Province has started the construction of its first rare and endangered plant conservation base.

Located in Guangdong's Shaoguan City, the Nanling Base will cover an area of 133 hectares when finished; 12 hectares have been finished so far.

In the future, the base will be built into an international first-class conservation base of rare and endangered wild plants, especially subtropical plants.

It will rescue and protect wild plants and reconstruct their wild populations in a scientific way.

Staff at the Nanling National Nature Reserve have also launched a new round of large-scale animal and plant surveys to collect data for future research and preservation efforts.
