Migratory birds are making islands and rivers across China part of their resting and foraging grounds as they fly northward for breeding.
In Dandong City of northeastern China's Liaoning Province, more than 200,000 migratory birds, including the bar-tailed godwit, can be seen at a wetland in the Yalu River.
The bird, weighing about 800 grams, can fly for seven straight days and nights without a break. Scientists say the bird loses more than half of its weight during this flight.
A small island in the south of the Miyun Reservoir in Beijing has also become a popular destination for migratory birds. Thousands of them can be seen resting on top of trees.
In Jiaozuo City of central China's Henan Province, a total of 67 species of birds and 27 species of waterfowl have been detected.
