A rare scenery of blue ice was spotted recently in the Jade Lake of Zhaosu County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, after the icy lake started to thaw on April 16.

Lying in the southern Ili River valley, the county has an altitude of 1,323-6,995 meters, where spring comes later than other parts of China.

The Jade Lake is an alpine lake in the mountainous area, 2,200 meters above sea level, presenting different colors with the change of seasons and weather thanks to its good variety of minerals.
