China-aided coronavirus testing labs in Serbia are conducting 3,000 tests per day, considerably improving the country's testing capability. The tests are being analyzed at laboratories donated by Chinese companies and individuals.
Dubbed Fire Eye is the biggest lab in the Balkans. It can process up to 2,000 samples a day, nearly doubling the combined testing capacity of all labs in Serbia. The second testing lab donated by China is located in the southern town of Nis. It can handle up to 1,000 samples a day. The tests are around 95 percent accurate.
The firm's scientists are working with a group of Serbian medical researchers and behind tightly sealed windows, contamination is almost impossible.
Serbia had reported 8,275 coronavirus cases and 162 deaths by April 27. Serbian officials said the country's outbreak has peaked. With lockdown measures easing, widespread testing and screening remain key to prevent a second wave.
