The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Thursday denounced the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for hyping the conspiracy on the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying their attempt to use the virus to plot "Taiwan independence" is doomed to fail.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Office made the comments after the DPP, following instructions of Western politicians, unreasonably speculated to investigate the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic and accused the Chinese mainland of concealing information.

Zhu rejected the claim, emphasizing that the epidemic information and its prevention measures are always open and transparent. "The claim that the (Chinese) mainland has concealed the epidemic is completely upside-down."

According to Zhu, the Chinese mainland has published the timeline of the epidemic notification in a comprehensive and timely manner and invited Taiwan health experts to conduct field visits.

While Chinese people are united to fight against the pandemic, the DPP continues to weave various rumors to slander and smear what the Chinese mainland has achieved in containing the virus, the move, as the spokesperson noted, "exposed its ugly nature of seeking independence through epidemic," which is doomed to fail.
