Latest COVID-19 developments in the past 12 hours

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that the country is "past the peak" of the COVID-19 outbreak as another 674 patients died, bringing the country's coronavirus-related death toll to 26,711. The total cases detected in the UK were 171,253 as of Thursday morning.

France reported 289 new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, taking nationwide fatalities to 24,376. The total number of infections stood at 129,581. France plans to lift the coronavirus lockdown on May 11.

Italy recorded on Thursday the highest daily number of coronavirus recoveries since late February with 4,693 recovered cases, bringing the total to 75,945 recoveries. The latest death toll stands at 27,967 and the nationwide number of infections stands at 205,463.

U.S. cases have now reached 1,067,289 with 62,870 deaths reported, according to latest Johns Hopkins University tally. New York is the hardest hit state with subways that usually operate 24/7 to shut down form 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. everyday for disinfection.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said he has tested positive for COVID-19.
