Australia's National Science Agency is participating in the global race to halt the spread of COVID-19 by testing two potential vaccines on animals to find a safe and effective way to protect humans from the deadly coronavirus.

Researchers believe it's possible that at least one of the dozens of projects taking place around the world will lead to a vaccine being developed by early next year.
