Along the Trocadero esplanade, from the Eiffel Tower across the Seine, statues wear face masks while the city, usually crowded with tourists, stands silent. The number of COVID-19 deaths in France rose by 166 to 24,760 on May 2 while hospitalizations and people in ICU continued to decline. France is set to enter its last week of strict coronavirus confinement rules.
