A Hong Kong court granted a bail to Jimmy Lai Chee-ying on Tuesday. Lai was suspected of "knowingly participating in unauthorized assembly" and "criminal intimidation."

Lai, founder of Apple Daily and media group Next Digital, was suspected of violating Hong Kong's Crimes Ordinance by verbally intimidating a man during an assembly on June 4, 2017 in the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island. He was also suspected of violating Hong Kong's Public Order Ordinance by participating in an unauthorized assembly between Wan Chai area and Central area on August 31, 2019.

Opposition figures Lee Cheuk-yan and Yeung Sum were also arrested for participating in the unlawful assembly held last August.

On Tuesday, the court set to hear the case about criminal intimidation again on August 19, after Lai denied the charge.

He was told not to interfere with the two prosecution witnesses.

The hearing of Lai about the charge of illegal assembly has also been delayed to May 18. 

The 72-year-old was allowed to be released on a 4,000 Hong Kong dollar-bail while waiting for the trial. He is not allowed to leave Hong Kong and must report to the police station every Wednesday.
