In the 2014 semifinal game against Brazil at The Estadio Mineirao on July 8, Klose claimed Germany's second goal, surpassing Ronaldo to become the No. 1 scorer in World Cup history - with the Brazilian striker in attendance to see his record get beaten.

Klose played for Bayern between 2007 and 2011 during which he won two Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal championships with the club.

"It feels very good, I'm very much looking forward to the task. Hansi Flick and I have known each other very well since our years together in the German national team. We trust each other, both professionally and personally. For me this is the next step in my career as a coach. I hope that I can use my experience to make an important contribution in helping FC Bayern achieve our sporting goals," said Klose.

"We are very happy that Miro has decided to take this step from the FC Bayern Campus to the first team. He is the most successful German striker of the last 15 – 20 years. I am convinced that our strikers in particular will benefit from him being there as a coach. Miro was also Hansi Flick's preferred candidate," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"I'm very happy Miro has chosen this path. He has coached the U17s for two years, with convincing results on the field, and he's overseen the positive development of the team. I'm convinced Miro is a very good fit for Hansi Flick's coaching team and can also become an important contact person for our players, with his experience and his footballing concepts," said club sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

"With his experience as a former professional at the highest international level, Miro is the perfect addition to our coaching team. We have known and appreciated each other for a very long time and were able to celebrate great successes together with the national team. The fact that Danny Röhl will stay with us for the long term is also great news for me and my team," said Bayern's manager Flick.
