With no audiences on site, China Fashion Week was expected to reach viewers in millions.

This year's event in Beijing ran from May 1-7. For the first time, the event used online streaming amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On multimedia platforms, viewers at home were able to see the latest creations by world-renowned designers and purchase their favorite products.

Many designers joined the live streaming and shared their inspiration behind their creations with viewers.

Wang Yuntao, a designer, said: "I think the advantage of the live stream is that it allows the general public to enter the fashion world and learn what fashion really is."

Over 170 brands from 15 countries and regions took part in the online event. Over 70 brands held live-streaming selling sessions, tapping into the big potential of e-commerce.

The organizers of the fashion week said in the past their clients preferred offline sales, but this year they've seen online sales become much more popular.

As the event's theme goes, "Rebuild and Innovate", the coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the transformation of the fashion industry to further embrace technology.
