'Bird of paradise' visits southwest China
CGTN

Last week, some beautiful birds were spotted in Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China. Technically, they are not birds of paradise, which are endemic to South America, but these birds have similar elongated tails, and they have the word "paradise" in their name, too. Slide the gallery below to see who they are:

These graceful white birds are called paradise flycatcher. The photographed ones are a subspecies of the Indian paradise flycatcher, which has distinctive white plumage. Paradise flycatchers range across Africa and Asia. Their most telling characteristic are the males' long tail streamers. The small bird measures only about 20 centimeters in length, but their tails can be as long as their bodies. Female paradise flycatchers are usually plain-looking; however, they will choose their painters by the length of tail streamers. Once "married", the birds stick to one partner for their lives, and raise their chicks together.
