China's land territory in stable ecological condition, says ministry

A total of 44.7 percent of China's land territory was in excellent or fine ecological quality in 2019, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced on Thursday.

China's forest coverage rose to 22.96 percent last year with 220 million hectares of forests, according to a report released by the ministry.

There are also about 400 million hectares of grassland in China, which make of 41.7 percent of China's land territory, the report says.

The country also boasts over 11,800 nature reserves, covering 18 percent of China's land area and 4.1 percent of water under China's jurisdiction.
