China's "Two Sessions", known as the highest-profile political events of the year, will convene later this month. China's State Council Information Office briefed the press Saturday about the latest on the handling of thousands of different motions and proposals. It says during the period of the pandemic, more than 400 motions and proposals focused on providing wisdom in tackling public health issues.

According to an official from the State Council Information Office, 7,162 motions from the legislators and 3,281 proposals from political advisers were handled throughout 2019.

With this year's important annual political season postponed from March to May as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, lots of work still need to be done, especially in the public health sector.

Li Bin, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission, said: "This year's COVID-19 outbreak was the most serious public health emergency event that Chinese people have ever experienced since the establishment of the People's Republic of China. It spread so fast on such a large scale and was very difficult to tackle. We need to improve our public health emergency response capabilities and disease prevention and control systems."

Li Meng, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, said: "Artificial Intelligence has played an important role in controlling the pandemic this time. AI technology has been applied to various fields, including innovative manufacturing industries, the medical health sector, and online working, etc. It has created a new normal for running businesses and improved the ability of social governance. "

Officials also said China would cooperate with the international community and share its experiences in tackling the coronavirus. And more motions and proposals are expected to be handled this year for making effective policies to shape a better future.
