The Chinese measurement team has decided to remain on standby at an altitude of 6,500 meters on the world's highest peak Mount Qomolangma on May 9 in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The team aims to remeasure the height of Mount Qomolangma. The peak's height had been previously measured by China in 1975 and 2005, respectively.

During the standby, the team will continue preparations for the survey, including physical training and equipment adjustment untill further notice.

The team will send some of its members to an altitude of 7,028 meters on Saturday to check the weather conditions.

A planned summitting effort has been postponed and when to launch the final would largely depend on how the weather changes, as for any mountaineering attempt.
