Over 100 mln students return to school in China: Education Ministry

A total of 107.8 million students have returned to schools in China, accounting for 39 percent of the total number of students in the country, the Chinese Ministry of Education said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Among them, 2.9 million are college students. Colleges in 26 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have opened, leaving only those in Beijing, and provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Hubei and Heilongjiang closed after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Others who have resumed class include: 21.62 million senior high school students in all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; 3.27 million secondary vocational school students in 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; 31.48 million junior high school students in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; 43.84 million primary school students in 21 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; and 4.68 million kindergarten students in eight provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

Among the 278 million students and 17 million faculty members in the country's education system, there are 14 asymptomatic cases under observation and one confirmed COVID-19 case.
