Teng Qianguo, a villager in northwest China's Gansu Province, helped save a Eurasian eagle owl chick on his way home. The chick dropped from its nest on a stormy day. Teng decided to take it home to make sure it survived. Later, Teng contacted the Ganzhou District Wildlife Protection Station for professional help.

The Eurasian eagle owl is one of the largest species of owls under second-class state protection in China. It can be found in habitats as diverse as northern coniferous forests to the edge of vast deserts.

Teng was awarded a certificate of honor for his kindness.
