China's Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council holds a daily media conference on the role of "Fang Cang" shelter hospitals in treating different kinds of patients and containing the spread of COVID-19. In the wake of the deadly outbreak, public venues, such as stadiums and exhibition centers, were transformed into these hospitals. Medical journal Lancent has termed these hospitals as "powerful components of national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as future epidemics and public health emergencies."
