Li Pengfei was removed from the post of secretary of the Shulan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as the city is battling against COVID-19, according to the Jilin provincial authorities.

Zhang Jinghui, who is deputy mayor of Jilin City in Jilin Province, will take over the post.

Shulan City in Jilin Province is now reimposing community lockdown in a battle against COVID-19, as 29 cases have been confirmed.

The National Health Commission has sent a team to Shulan to help control the situation.
