Felicien Kabuga, one of the most wanted suspects in the Rwandan genocide, was arrested on Saturday in the Paris region, local procuratorate said in a statement.

Kabuga, 84, who was living under a false identity in a flat on the outskirts of Paris, had been pursued by international justice for 25 years.

Kabuga was the alleged financier of the genocide. About 1 million people were killed in Rwanda during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, which lasted about 100 days.

In 2003, the UN General Assembly designated April 7 as the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda.
