15 leading Hong Kong opposition figures back in court

Fifteen leading opposition figures including Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, Lee Cheuk-yan and Yeung Sum Monday made court appearances as they were suspected of "knowingly participating in unauthorized assembly" and "criminal intimidation." 

The West Kowloon Magistrates Court granted bail to all the defendants and adjourned the case until June 15 at the prosecution's request.  

The Hong Kong police arrested 15 people on April 18 for their involvement in several unauthorized assemblies during the unrest in 2019.

Lai, founder of Apple Daily and media group Next Digital, was suspected of violating Hong Kong's Crimes Ordinance by verbally intimidating a man during an assembly on June 4, 2017 in the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island.  

Lai, Lee and Yeung were all suspected of violating Hong Kong's Public Order Ordinance by participating in an unauthorized assembly between Wan Chai area and Central area on August 31, 2019. 

Leung Kwok-hung and Figo Chan were suspected of violating Hong Kong's Public Order Ordinance by participating in an unauthorized assembly on October 1, 2019 and October 20, 2019. They were allowed to be released on a 1,000 Hong Kong dollar-bail while waiting for the trial.
