Norwegians celebrated their May 17 national holiday with boat parades and socially distanced choirs, as the traditional children's parades were canceled for the first time since 1870. Due to the pandemic, parades were banned and gatherings limited to 50 people. After centuries under Danish and Swedish control, Norway normally bathes in a sea of red, white and blue flags on May 17, the anniversary of the signing of its constitution in 1814 - decades before full independence in 1905.
