NPC deputies, or "quan guo ren da dai biao," are lawmakers and members of the highest organ of state power in China, the National People's Congress, or NPC. NPC deputies are elected by people's congresses in provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government. The armed forces select their own deputies. And deputies from Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan follow separate rules by the NPC.
CPPCC members, or "zheng xie wei yuan" belong to the country's political advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, known as CPPCC. Its members are selected through consultation and recommendations. The body also has some star power, including Jackie Chan and former NBA star Yao Ming.
Both NPC deputies and CPPCC members play important roles in China's political life.
