Italy's Venice Biennale organizers announced on Monday that both art and architecture events will be postponed, the latest high-profile cultural events to be disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's the second time that the Biennale has changed its dates. Just two months ago, it postponed its opening ceremony for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition to August 29. It was originally set on May 23.

Now the architecture event with the theme of "How Will We Live Together?" has been rescheduled to open on May 22, 2021 and it will last till November 21 that year.

Meanwhile, the 59th International Art Exhibition, which was to take place in 2021, has in turn been postponed to 2022, from April 23 to November 27.

"The current situation, up to now, has definitely prejudiced the realization of the exhibition in its entirety, jeopardizing the realization, transport and presence of the works and consequently the quality of the exhibition itself," the Biennale said in a statement.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was "impossible to move forward" in organizing the exhibits before August, the organizers added.
