Field research on plants and animal species in Laoshan National Forest Park conducted jointly by the park and Nanjing Forestry University started on May 18.

Laoshan is the largest national forest park in Jiangsu Province.

The Sinojackia xylocarpa is a native deciduous shrub under second-class state protection in China, but its exact distribution requires further study. Its Chinese name, cheng chui shu, literally means "steelyard weight tree," which the fruit's shape resembles.

Paradise flycatchers and owls also live in the forest, but their numbers and distribution remain unknown.
