Manuel Neuer, the starting goalkeeper of both Germany's national team and Bundesliga's heavyweights Bayern Munich, has extended his contract with Bayern to 2023, announced the club on Wednesday.

"FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023," said Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "Manuel is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain."

"I can easily put myself in the situation Manuel is in. We understand the direction Manuel wants to take in this phase of his career and what's important to him. He's sent a strong signal with this extension," said the club's executive board member and former legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.

Neuer joined Bayern in 2011 and has helped the club win various honors since then – seven Bundesliga titles, four DFN Pokal championships, four DFL Super Cups, one UEFA Champions League title, one UEFA Super Cup championship and one FIFA Club World Cup title.

Personally, Neuer was four-time IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper, four-time UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year, 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Glove winner and 2014 L'Équipe's player of the year. Though he suffered back-to-back fractured metatarsals in the 2017-18 season, 34-year-old Neuer is still one of the world's best goalkeepers.

"During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn't want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when, and how Bundesliga football would continue. It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Now, this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria. FC Bayern are one of Europe's top football clubs," said Neuer.

Though 23-year-old Alexander Nübel will join Bayern next season as a free agent from Schalke 04, Bayern's manager Hansi Flick already confirmed that Neuer would remain his first choice for the position.
