The third annual session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) commenced at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. CPPCC members spoke to the media via online video calls before the opening session. 

Through the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the power of our culture, system and national strength in the battle against the coronavirus, said Wang Chen, member of the CPPCC. "We must reflect upon this experience."

Wang also suggested that China needs to enhance its medical education and train more medical professionals, emphasizing the importance of medical research and public health. 

It is important to build a national medical research institution and a national medical health science foundation, Wang said.
