Bayern Munich might have come one step closer landing Leroy Sane from Manchester City as SportBild reported that the 24-year-old German winger is willing to forgo 30 percent of his salary to join their team.

Bayern have been negotiating with Man City over the transfer of Sane for a long time. Last year, Man City refused to accept any offer lower than 100 million pounds (about 122 million U.S. dollars) but it has never been Bayern's style to squander money on the transfer market. After Sane suffered an injury in the FA Community Shied game, the negotiations broke off.

Now Sane only has one year left of his contract with Man City, and the club may miss the UEFA Champions League next season as part of its punishments for failing to follow the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules. Besides, the player is willing to make sacrifices on his salary to go to a new a club. All of these have put Bayern in an advantageous position in the transfer negotiations with Man City.

Another possible reason for Sane's will to depart the Etihad Stadium for Allianz Arena has something to do with German national team recruitment. Back in 2018, Sane helped Man City win the Premier League title with 10 goals and 15 assists but he still missed out on being in Joachim Loew's squad for the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

By contrast, Bayern have been contributing the most players to the German national team for decades. It's basically common sense that leading domestic players of this club will have better chance of making the national team.

Furthermore, Bayern want Sane to improve their offense. With his speed and explosiveness, Sane can be a game-changer from the left wing and that's exactly what Bayern have needed since Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben left. According to The Mirror, Bayern have the No. 10 jersey, which had been worn by Robben for 10 years, reserved for Sane, a sign they expect him to help the team scale new heights.
