The information office for the Yunnan provincial government announced at a press conference that the 2020 United Nations Biodiversity Convention (COP15), which was initially scheduled to be held in Kunming City this year, will be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the office, the location will remain unchanged with the time to be determined.

The 2020 United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, which is also the fifteenth meeting of the Parties, was set to be held in China with the theme of "Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth". This year's conference will review the "Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework" and set new targets for global biodiversity by 2030.

According to Gao Zhengwen, an inspector of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Yunnan Province, the local government is currently working to prepare for the conference. By now, 177 scripts for mascots and 267 scripts for the emblem were received from the public for the final determination.
