The National People's Congress convened on Friday. The government announced that China will not set a specific GDP growth target for 2020, and pledged to increase spending and financing to support the economy. On this, CGTN host Tian Wei interviewed professor Bai Chong'en, a CPPCC member and a prominent economist who is serving as the dean at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University. He noted that the pandemic's impact on the economy is unique in the way that different industries are affected differently, some sectors might have even benefited from the crisis. Therefore it is crucial for the government to be accurate in giving out aids, to help businesses overcome this difficult time.
