Over 5,000 night herons have settled their home on reed marshes in the south Dongting Lake in Yuanjiang City, central China's Hunan Province. Dongting Lake is one of the largest lakes in China. Every summer, night herons come to the wetland for breeding. To keep the chicks safe from predators like snakes, the birds build their nests on the top of the reeds. As the environment is getting better, more and more migratory birds have arrived there to spend summer.
