On May 24, 2020, large flocks of relict gulls, an endangered bird species, were spotted thriving in the Kangbanuoer Wetland Park, located in Zhangjiakou City of north China's Hebei Province.

Relict gulls are medium-sized birds with black, white and gray feathers. They usually spend their winter in Bohai Bay and fly northward in spring to northwestern parts of China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan for breeding.
