The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has initiated a series of online classes intended to improve referees' understanding of the latest rules of the game, it announced on Tuesday.

CBA said the focus of the online classes is on fundamental theories, which could offer referees a review of explanations in regard to basketball rules.

"Many of our referees love what they've been doing, but due to a lack of experience, they cannot understand the development of basketball rules, and how to put their understanding of the rules into officiating practice well," the Chinese basketball's governing body explained.

"So we need to go through those rules and explanations, and conduct an analysis together," it added.

The first online class was recently aired on CCTV Sports Channel, with experienced referee Zeng Hongtao, member of International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Technical Commission, teaching.
