Giant pandas at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding have a different diet in the summer. In addition to fresh bamboo, they eat bamboo shoots, which are more nutritious. An adult giant panda eats dozens of kilograms of bamboo shoots a day. They also eat "ice cakes" made of frozen fruits and ice cubes cut into the shape of a cake.

The giant pandas play in a small pond after their meal. Their sleeping area is equipped with air conditioning in the summer.
