The area where the Summer Palace sits used to be the largest wetland in Beijing. The vibrant lotus flowers reflected the lively ecological environment. Nowadays, great effort has been invested into restoring its original ecological structure, so that the expansive landscape of lotus leaves dotted with elegant flowers can be evoked once more.
