Villager rescues Asian barred owlet in NW China

Updated 2020.06.05 17:36 GMT+8

Recently, a villager in the Hanbin District, Ankang City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, rescued a bird in his yard.

Realizing the injured bird couldn't fly, the villager called the local forestry department for help.

After a thorough examination, it was identified as an Asian barred owlet chick, a species of true owl under second-class state protection in China.

The bird was sent to a rescue center where it will be raised until it can fly and be released back into the wild.

According to the head of the rescue center, when encountering wildlife, do not disturb the animal unless you are sure it is injured and in need of help. When rescuing it, please call the police or the forestry department; do not take it home prematurely.
