A great egret was released to Nanhaizi Wetland Nature Reserve in Baotou City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on Friday.

The bird was not able to stand because of a head injury when it was found by a resident on May 27 and taken to Baotou Wildlife Rescue Center. Staff at the center fed the great egret some fish and loaches and nursed it back to health.

A week later, the bird recovered and was ready to be released back to the wetland. The staff did a final check of its wings and body to make sure it was able to live in the wild.
