Xi's fourth visit of northwest China's Ningxia in 24 years

Chinese president Xi Jinping inspected northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Monday. He visited a village, a section of the Yellow River, and a residential community in the city of Wuzhong to learn about efforts to advance poverty alleviation, strengthen ecological protection of the Yellow River, and promote ethnic unity.

From 1997 to 2020, Xi visited Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region four times. According to Ningxia Regional Poverty Aid Office, Ningxia's Xiji-Haiyuan-Guyuan area is one of the poorest places in China, its uninhabitable environment brings challenges to poverty alleviation. After years of helping the locals, all 1,100 villages in Ningxia have been lifted out of poverty, and eight out of nine poor counties have been completed poverty alleviation according to Ningxia's 2020 Government Work Report.
