First rare magpie spotted in south China's Guangxi

Updated 2020.06.09 19:08 GMT+8

The common green magpie was first spotted and recorded at a birdwatching hotspot in Longzhou County in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region last Friday.

According to previous records, the bird is very rare and has only been found in the Tibetan Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province in China.

The video shot by birdwatchers of the Longzhou County Birdwatching Association shows adult magpies feeding the chicks, indicating that they are breeding in the area. Common green magpies either live alone or in pairs and mainly feed on insects.

There are more than 200 bird species living in Longzhou County, making it a popular place for birdwatching.
