A piece of wetland recovered from commercial development in east China's Anhui Province has attracted many herons.

Herons are long-legged predatory freshwater and coastal birds. Globally there are 64 heron species, of which 22 can be found in China.

The birds are considered an indicator of how healthy a wetland ecosystem is.

In recent years, China has been controlling land development in an attempt to rehabilitate ecosystems across the country.
