Pigeon pair of giant anteater pups make debut in southern China

A pigeon pair of giant anteater pups made their debut Wednesday at the Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province. /VCG

The pups, born on March 3, are the first pigeon pair of their kind to be successfully bred in Asia. /VCG

Giant anteaters usually give birth to one single offspring a time, which typically weighs from 1,200 to 1,500 grams at birth. The pair of pups weighed only about 900 grams each when they were born. /VCG

Giant anteaters, native to Central and South America, are classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. /VCG
