Top UK epidemiologist Neil Ferguson has criticized the government's measures to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the death toll in Britain could have been halved if lockdown measures would have been introduced a week sooner. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended what he called "astonishing" efforts to tackle the disease. And he rejected accusations that his response to the health crisis was badly lacking.
