Hundreds of Lebanese poured into the streets to protest the tumbling of the national currency to a new low against the U.S. dollar. The protests blocked roads and highways in several places across the country that had started slowly opening up after months of lockdown.
Protesters threw objects at army forces, burned tires and pieces of wood, chanted slogans and waved the Lebanese flag to protest against the unprecedented economic crisis.
Prime Minister Hassan Diab canceled his meetings and called for an emergency session to discuss the financial crisis, while the Central Bank's governor urged foreign exchange bureaus to stick to the rate he had ordered.
